Award Schemes

Duke of Edinburgh award has inspired and transformed the lives of millions of young people from all walks of life. From volunteering to physical activities, life skills to expeditions, achieving a DofE Award is a passport to a brighter future, valued by employers and universities.

Eco Schools is the largest sustainable schools programme in the world and is designed to encourage whole-school action on sustainable development education issues.  It is an environmental management tool, a learning resource and a recognised award scheme.  It empowers young people to take action towards an economically, socially and environmentally just world.

Fairtrade : Becoming a Fairtrade School means joining a worldwide movement – a movement where young people learn that, whatever their age, they have the power to make a difference in the world.  It offers a great opportunity to look at global issues such as where our food comes from and how we are connected to people around the world. Students can also learn a range of skills, from teamwork and co-operation to persuasive writing to running a stall or tuck shop.

JASS : The Junior Award Scheme for Schools (JASS) is an accredited award for young people. By providing a structured programme, JASS aims to support young people through the transition from primary school to lower secondary school. JASS has been designed to be flexible and adaptable to the interests and abilities of individuals to ensure it is achievable by all participants, whilst matching the goals of their Schools Curriculum. There is no set age range for JASS, however we have found it works best for 10 – 14 year olds. Because of it’s flexibility, JASS is proving particularly popular with additional support needs settings.

John Muir : It’s an environmental award scheme for people of all backgrounds – groups, families, individuals. It’s non-competitive, inclusive and accessible.

Rights Respecting Schools : There are four key areas of impact for children at a Rights Respecting school; wellbeing, participation, relationships and self-esteem. The difference that a Rights Respecting school makes goes beyond the school gates, making a positive impact on the whole community.
